YO' MOMMA SO
UNDERAPPRECIATED
Yesterday was Mother's Day, and I hope you
all did something nice for your mommas. Especially if you have an Italian
momma, 'cause, the way I hear tell, they remember if you don't.
And you go on a list.
The day BEFORE yesterday, around these parts,
was the annual Charleston East End Yard Market, a coordinated, half-city-wide
yard sale. You heard me. We're a small city, we take our civic events where
we can. There's a festival air to the goings-on, with mobile food vendors,
live music, and, yes, even the occasional child forced to stand on her parents'
front lawn and play the violin to attract customers. I don't know what percentage
of our populace is actually descended from gypsies, but it's gotta be up
there.
Did I make any incredible finds, you ask? Well,
at one point I was considering purchasing a "Lite Brite" toy for two dollars,
but since I'm already a cartoonist, video game enthusiast, and once bought
a hunting license, I figure I'm already on enough federal terrorist-profiling
lists. I did make one significant purchase, however -- well, two, if you
count the hot dogs -- I got the Milton Bradley "Goosebumps' Terror in the
Graveyard" board game for fifty cents. I was gonna try to dicker the price
down, but the seller was a hard-looking old bird, so I just played it cool.
I don't honestly know how old the game is --
I wasn't a 'Goosebumps' fan, which was a little after my time. I just like
monster-themed junk. When I got home, I set it up and gave it a test run;
all pieces were there, and the ghost-launcher still worked (Most modern exorcists
don't tell you about the ghost-launchers up-front).
Anyways, that was the weekend. Sorry for another
two-strip week last time, but I'm happy to report that all of this week's
strips are currently finished and ready to go, so, for once, we're on-schedule.
