FABLE... ULOUS
comic updated October 22, 2008
Pun! Sort of.
It's no secret that I've been a fan of the "Fable"
series since the days when designer Peter Molynieux was still promising that
it would wake you up with a foot massage and make your breakfast. I've never
felt quite the resentment that a lot of people have held against the first
game upon its release, when a number of promised -- and, yes, somewhat fantastic
-- features had to be cut in order to make the release date.
I think the chief issue at hand was that a lot
of people took the bold claims Mr. Molynieux made as marketing hype, just
cooked-up ballyhoo to move the game. But if you've paid attention, you know
that's not how he works; the man's out to do impossible things. If he
says you can plant an acorn anywhere in the game world and it'll grow into
a mighty oak over the course of a few years, by golly, that's what he was
trying to do.
My feeling was, and is, that there should always
be incentive for people to attempt the impossible. If they fail, well...
it was impossible, wasn't it? But knowing that there's somebody out
there TRYING to make your head explode with the awesomeness of their gameitude
is very healthy for progress in this infant industry.
I was gonna talk about Fable 2. Outta time! Friday,
then.
